Energy Assessments

Energy efficiency improvements to your Western New York or Northwestern Pennsylvania home can make it more comfortable and lower your energy bills. The best way to start the process is by scheduling an energy assessment with Sanfilippo Solutions.

Our energy assessments involve a comprehensive evaluation of your home and its energy use. At the end of your assessment, you’ll have a better understanding of what improvements will make the biggest difference for you and your family.

Why Energy Assessments Are So Important

Would you replace your car’s engine without having a mechanic look it over? Would you decide to undergo surgery without a doctor examining you? The same logic applies to making home improvements without having a building energy expert evaluate your house.

Energy assessments (some companies call them energy audits) help remove the guesswork from home upgrades. We use building science knowledge and testing equipment to learn more about the condition of your house and what we could do to improve it.

Armed with the results of your assessment, you can feel confident you’re making the right home upgrades.

Home Improvement and Energy Efficiency.

Sanfilippo’s Energy Assessment Process

Our energy assessments can take as long as three hours (though most are shorter). We will schedule an in-person visit where we can sit down to talk to you about any problems you’re experiencing in your home.

Expensive energy bills, ice dams, indoor drafts, persistent allergy symptoms, and discomfort in particular rooms are all issues that an assessment can help get to the bottom of, and the most important thing we can do is listen to you, the homeowner.

Then, we’ll take time looking at everything in your house, from the top of the attic all the way down the basement. We’ll check:

  • Your insulation, measuring how much is there currently and what condition it’s in
  • Your windows, checking for cracks or gaps, especially around the window frame
  • Any holes or gaps letting air enter and exit your home (air leaks are common where electricians and plumbers have drilled holes to run wiring or pipes)
  • Fuel-burning appliances to see if they are emitting unsafe levels of carbon monoxide
  • The age and condition of heating, cooling, and hot water systems
  • Your home’s air quality to see how healthy your indoor air is

It can be hard to do some of this work simply with a visual evaluation, which is why we use building science equipment like blower doors and infrared cameras as part of our assessment process.

Blower doors are large fans installed that depressurize your home and help us quickly find the source of air leaks. Infrared cameras help us see differences in temperature on areas of your wall or ceiling, a telltale sign of air leaks or poor insulation.

At the end of our assessment, we’ll review our findings and make recommendations for the services we think will solve the problems you’re experiencing in our home. These services can include:

We Are a Participating Contractor in NYSERDA Incentive Programs

Sanfilippo Solutions is a participating contractor in several energy efficiency incentive programs run by NYSERDA, including EmPower+ and Comfort Home. Utility customers throughout the state of New York pay into this program—it’s a small itemized charge on your gas or electric bill. Even if you didn’t already know you were helping to fund these programs, you can now benefit by starting with an energy assessment and learning more about the opportunities for discounts on our services!

As part of your assessment process, we’ll explain everything about how these rebate programs work as well as other incentives like tax credits that can help reduce your upfront costs and make upgrading your home more affordable. Plus, as long as you book work with us after your audit, your audit is free!
